Australorp Chickens is an abbreviation of Australian black Orpington, and as the name would suggest, the Australorp is a breed that originated in Australia (in approximately 1890), from the English Orpington.

The Australorp is well-suited to Australian conditions and is one of the most efficient egg layers as it averages over 300 eggs per hen per year in a commercial setting. However, backyard poultry producers should not expect more than 250 eggs a year. The Black Australorp is an ideal bird for free range production as they have a good temperament. Although they are renowned for their egg laying ability, the Australorp is a durable dual purpose breed as it is also suitable for meat. Australorp Chickens.

A caramel/brown shade of feathers, with white feathers in a pattern around their necks, and white feathers at the tips of their tail feathers appearance. Feathers: Clean, bright, not puffed up.
